Kabuliwala Bengali: কাবুলীওয়ালা) is a story written by Bengali writer Rabindranath Tagore. Two films have been produced based on this story, both named Kabuliwala. The first was filmed in Bengali in 1956 by Tapan Sinha, and the second in Hindi, also titled, Kabuliwala in 1961, directed by Hemen Gupta, produced by Bimal Roy. At the 7th Berlin International Film Festival the film won the Silver Bear Extraordinary Prize of the Jury award. Rehmat (Chhabi Biswas), a middle-aged fruit seller from Afghanistan comes to Calcutta to hawk his merchandise and befriends a small Bengali girl called Minnie (Tinku Thakur) who reminds him of his own daughter back in Afghanistan. He puts up at a boarding house along with his countrymen. One day Rehmat receives news of his daughters illness through a letter from his country and he decides to leave for his country. Since he is short of money he decides to sell his goods on credit for increasing his business. Later when he goes to collect on his money one of his customers abuses him and in the fight that ensues Rehmat warns that he will not tolerate abuse and stabs the guy when he does not stop the abuse. In the court Rehmat's lawyer tries to obfuscate the facts but in his characteristic and simple fashion Rehmat states the truth in a matter of fact way. The judge pleased with Rehmats honesty gives him 10 years rigorous imprisonment instead of the death sentence. On the day of his release he goes to meet Minnie but discovers that ...

The Saint Lawrence Seaway (St. Lawrence Seaway), in French: la Voie Maritime du Saint-Laurent, is the common name for a system of locks, canals and channels that permits ocean-going vessels to travel from the Atlantic Ocean to the North American Great Lakes, as far as Lake Superior. It opened each week with a naked Reggie walking out into the sea to end it all before rapidly rethinking the whole idea, and told the story of a man desperate to escape his loving but dull marriage, disappointing offspring and the daily grind of his job. The first series - while hilariously funny - was incredibly dark, focusing on a man in nervous breakdown. Each week Reggie's behaviour becomes more erratic, his excuses to his secretary for lateness weirder and weirder ("22 minutes late, Joan: a badger ate a junction box at New Malden") and his fantasies of seducing her more vivid. The mere mention of his mother-in-law is enough to send an image of a hippo lumbering through his head and each episode ends with Reggie screaming in frustration. Ultimately he fakes his own death but is reunited with wife Elizabeth when he attends his funeral in disguise and can't resist wooing her all over again. Reggie returned a year later bent on setting up a new business, "Grot", selling useless goods. It was, of course, a massive success, leaving Reggie trapped back in the rat race. For the third, less successful series, he abandoned wage-slavery again, this time setting up a commune for his former co-workers. Den Boschers are quick to point out that it's one of the only places in Europe where boats cruise underneath buildings. Canals and waterways are an intrinsic part of the Netherlands' history. They're also a vital part of the Dutch transportation and shipping industries. But where Amsterdam canals are filled with traffic and shipping boats, 's-Hertogenbosch canals are quiet and peaceful. Moreover, Amsterdam boat tours are commercialised and are little more than a glorified bus ride. 's-Hertogenbosch canals, or De Binnendieze as the locals call them, are exclusively reserved for one tour company: Kring Vrienden van 's-Hertogenbosch. These boats are small offering seating for a maximum of 12 people and have no roof, so definitely bring your rain gear. The unique thing about De Binnendieze is that the canals also go underneath the city. On the water you'll notice markings and old bits and pieces hanging above that date back hundreds of years. Unfortunately, most of these happen to mark the spots where sewage was expelled from the buildings above, but you don't have to mention that when you write your postcards home. When the guide turns on the flood light and shuts the engine off you're surrounded by pitch-black darkness and you can't help but wonder if these canals were used for illicit ...
